What do you NEED for Christmas?
Posted by Lisa on Dec 19, 2010 in Uncategorized | 1 commentI am running out of time!
I admit… I’m not a very good gift giver so I do a lot of Christmas shopping at the last minute. It is the part of Christmas that my kids enjoy the most and I dread the most… Christmas presents.
Yes… I am Scrooge when it comes to Christmas shopping. I’d rather say “Merry Christmas! Here’s a gift card so go buy what you want!” than listen for clues throughout the year in order to find the perfect gift.
Secretly… I know you agree…
When it comes to receiving gifts, there is a trait that I have picked up from my dad that rears it’s ugly head at Christmas. If I determine I need something, I just go buy it myself! Maybe you carry this same gene?!
I also tend to think that I don’t “need” anything and the things I really do “need” are not gifts anyone can give.
- I need to organize my photos and find a way to digitize my ancient pictures…
- I need to clean closets and donate, give-away, or sell what we don’t use anymore…
- I need to paint my daughter’s bedroom…
- I need to spend more time volunteering at my kids’ school…
- I need to be a better wife and mother…
With my family asking me what I need for Christmas, this last week has gotten my head spinning with the things I “need” in the coming year. I’ve started to turn towards 2011 with both expectancy and reservation.
I’m expectant because it’s a clean slate and I get to start everything over… excited about creating awesome memories in 2011.
I’m reserved because the goals I set for myself are high and sometimes I feel like I get crushed under the weight of my own expectations.
So what is the perfect gift for you in the coming year? What do you “want” or “need”? In the next few posts, I’ll walk you through your own possibilities of the coming year. As I uncover the opportunities in my life, I’ll encourage you to uncover yours. We’ll take this adventurous journey together!
So grab onto the handle bars… you’re in for one wild ride!!

Here’s an idea that my wife always remembers. It was a book I gave her for Christmas 10 years ago. Except the part she remembers wasn’t the book…it was the wrapping paper. I cut out words and pictures from old Rolling Stone covers and made my own wrapping paper with the collage. She just mentioned to me recently of how awesome it was. I better do that again this year…because I’m out of good gift ideas for her. Good stuff Lisa!
