A Promising Sunset

It wasn’t the most spectacular sunset I’d ever seen and I wasn’t in the ideal location to be taking a photo of it but this was a sunset of promise!

You’ll notice that I was sitting in a plane… a cramped, noisy plane, watching the sun go down.  Kind of a sad photo… thinking that a fantastic day… a fantastic trip… a fantastic sunset was over.  Oh… but you couldn’t be so wrong!  This is a sunset of promise because we had just landed in beautiful Cancun for a family vacation!

Love the Journey Women’s Workshop

There is a point where we’ve become content to be the passenger, just ride along, take in the scenery, and live as if this adventure is happening to us.  It is our choice to maintain the status quo, just go where the road goes, and take the turns that we’re expected to take.  We are merely ‘living the journey’… staying on the paved roads because it’s easier, safer, and more predictable.

However, there is another side to our road trip that offers the adventure of a lifetime.  A chance to become involved in the journey, to step out of the cages that restrict our view of the scenery, and experience the road with all our senses.  This is where we find ourselves loving the journey instead of just living the journey.

5 Ways to Encourage Your Kids’ Career Choice

This last week, I was given the opportunity to speak to a group of high school sophomores on “Career Day”.  It was an exciting opportunity for me to have an impact on these young lives… inspire them to greatness… encourage them to follow their dreams… help them draw out their passions… and all I felt I did was bore them to death!

It was disheartening to me that when I posed the “What do you want to be when you grow up” question… most of the girls hid behind their hair and most of the boys looked down at their shoes.  Less than 10% of the group looked at me, pondered the question, and gave me an answer.  Where was the passion?  Where was the spirit?  Where was the excitement of an entire life to live?  Not anywhere to be seen except by a small few…  UGH!

Sunset #2 – Florida

I finally have a chance to share with you my 2nd sunset of 2012!!  Because I live in the midwest, breath-taking sunsets will be few and far between until winter has passed.  My sunset opportunities will grow as the season changes to spring!

This photo was taken from my hotel room in Orlando a couple weeks ago.  I fell in love with the glowing sun perfectly framed by cotton candy clouds.  The blackened palm trees reflected off the lake as they bowed to the setting sun.  Unfortunately, my family wasn’t with me this trip but I thought of them and wondered what the sunset looked like at home… wishing we were together to experience it.

How would you feel about riding through the Rocky Mountains on a beautiful summer day?   Imagine the road winding before you… an open invitation to a marvelous experience.  You lean to the right to follow the curve and then shift your weight to the left to seamlessly take the opposite curve.   You’re confident in your abilities so you roll on the throttle as you come out of each turn, uprighting yourself for the next bend in the road.
