Step 4 – Following the Mile Markers
0Remember the scene from Rocky where Paulie ask Rocky why he loves Adrian. He says that “She’s got gaps… I got gaps… together we fill gaps…” That’s what this step is all about… filling the gaps.
There’s someplace you want to be in your life but you’re right here at Point A… staring down the road at Point B. So you’ve identified your destination at Point B and following the Mile Markers will help you draw the line between the two. Watch this video and come on back for an example…
One of the most important goals to me is to become more engaged in the lives of my children. You know the “quality of time” vs. the “quantity of time”. Well… I want both and have come up with a handful of disciplines that will move me closer to the mom I’ve always wanted to be. <Keep in mind… these are things that will eventually become habits so I can replace them with another discipline.>
1. Volunteer once a month at school – have lunch with them, help in the classroom, or drive on a field trip
2. Have a play-date with friends once a month so that they can develop friendships with different children in their class
3. “Mom and me” time – one night a month, have date night with Dalton and Lauren individually. Start those great conversations!
4. Validate/encourage Dalton and Lauren at least once a day. Tell them why I’m proud of them and find something to praise them about. ”I love you!”
5. Write in my “mom journal” once a week so that Dalton and Lauren can read their childhood stories when they are older
6. Tuesday night is game night! Friday night is family night!
What gaps do you need to fill between how you’re living now and how you want to live? Look at your goals and break them into things you need to do on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You probably know what it takes to live the life you want but until you write down your action plan, it will elude you and you will never fill the gaps.

Step 3 – Stops Along the Way
1Welcome back! You’ve made it to step three where things will become much clearer! This is the step where we’re throwing one leg over the saddle and firing up the engine… ready to roll on the throttle and take off! We have a clear destination in mind and now we’re scheduling the stops along the way.
Watch the video now and then come back to finish the rest of this post… it’ll make more sense! See you in 3:43!
These stops will be little milestones of achievement that will keep us going full speed ahead to the next level. Our stops will allow us three things:
1. time to get off the road and reminice about how our trip has been so far – lessons learned, things we’d do differently, celebrate with others
2. gas up so we have enough fuel for the next leg of our journey
3. give us time to look at our map again in case we need to rechart our course and take a different route
The stops along the road that I’m eluding to are the short-term goals we set for ourselves that will help us fulfill our dreams. It’s impossible to look at your destination and think you’ll get there without doing anything. When you achieve your short-term goals, you’re one step closer to living the life you’ve envisioned.
Here are examples of my “stops along the way”:
Run the Disney Princess Half-marathon in February 2013 and beat my time from the Chicago race.
Lose 10 pounds by June 2012 by adapting the Paleo Lifestyle and exercising 3 atleast times a week.
Read 3 business or motivational books every month.
Ride the Tail of the Dragon by summer 2014.
Attend one spiritual based retreat/conference every year.
Practice patience when it comes to my children.
Practice discernment while becoming a better listener and improve the depth of my questions.
Fall in love all over again with my husband.
You’ll notice that most of these are things I want to do or accomplish where there is an end date in mind. Where the last 3 are more a behavioral change that isn’t really measurable but more of a work in progress. Don’t be afraid to address habits you want to break or values/principles you want to adopt in your life… it’ll build your character!
I love having you on this journey with me! Take some time to list the stops that you will need to make along the way… Please share them with me so I can encourage you on your journey!

Step 2 – Choose Your Destination
0You’ve just stepped into a series about how life is like a road trip and I’m your self-proclaimed road captain. I’m glad you’re rolling on the throttle and joining us! Take 5 minutes and review the last two videos and you’ll be caught up… we’ll wait for you!
For every road trip I take, I always begin with the end in mind and determine my destination. I know the saying that it’s not about the destination but it’s about the journey. Sure… I believe in the journey but every destination I’ve been to is pretty awesome too! What’s your ultimate destination? Do you know where you want to go in your life? Where is your journey taking you? Are you aimlessly driving around lost and alone? I hope not! Put your visionary glasses on and look into your future – it’s better than you ever imagined!
Just as I promised, here are a couple examples from my own life plan…
Health and Wellness - I am in the best shape of my life! My temple is in the right condition to feed the energy level needed to accomplish my goals. I feel good about myself and how I look because this promotes my self-confidence and self-esteem. My commitment to being active gives me the strength I need to stay focused and accomplished. Living a healthy life means living a longer life.
Bucket List – I love adventure and the feeling of freedom and excitement it gives me. God has put me on this earth to experience many things and fear will not get in the way of these opportunities for adventure. Trying new things expands my knowledge so I’ll try anything once and the fun things twice. I keep adding things to my bucket but more importantly, I’m taking things out and really living life! I refuse to pass from this world regretting the things I didn’t do.
If you hit a road block, feel free to email me your thoughts or questions. Lisa@FullThrottleLiving.com – I’d love to connect with you!

Pack Your Bags – con’t…
0Do you find you have conflicting priorities in your life? For me, it was pull between my work life and my home life. I’m ashamed to say that before I figured out what was most important to me, my clients always came before my family. My husband and children took the back seat to my career. Without gaining clarity through the exercise I explain in this video, I would probably be a divorced, work-a-holic who buys her kids’ love with expensive gifts. Not the way I want to live…
You can use this simple process as a filter for your decision-making in order to make choices that are consistent with how you want to live. It’s easy… grab your journal and check it out…
Next post I’ll be asking you to dig a little deeper… so spend the next day or two thinking about what you really want for each area of your life. Remember… this is YOUR life and not anyone else’s so BE BOLD and think bigger than where you are today!
